How to Get Crayon Off the Wall and Out of Clothes

Crayons are fun but unfortunately can turn into a mess. Learn how to remove crayon stains and melted crayon from walls, wood, clothing, and other fabrics.

Use as directed.

Laundry

  1. Scrape

    Scrape away as much as possible with a dull knife. Color yourself unimpressed.

  2. Blot

    Gently blot with a napkin to absorb as much as possible.

  3. Transfer

    Place a clean, non-waxy, brown paper bag over the spot. Dry iron on low. Repeat using a clean part of the bag until no more crayon is absorbed.

  4. Pre-Treat

    Pre-treat remaining stain using Clorox 2® for Colors Stain Remover and Laundry Additive. Let sit for 10 minutes. Set a timer so you don’t lose track of the time.

  5. Wash

    Wash in hot water, with detergent and more Clorox 2® for Colors Stain Remover and Laundry Additive, as recommended on care label. Air-dry to keep crayon residue out of the dryer. Repeat if necessary.

Tip

When transferring crayon to brown paper bag, dark brown splotches mean crayon is absorbing.

  1. Remove

    Remove excess crayon.

  2. Wipe

    Wipe surface clean with Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes1.

  3. Rinse

    Rinse with water. Maybe suggest a new canvas.
